The University of Johannesburg (UJ) and University Sport South Africa (USSA) are poised to host the prestigious International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Championship Squash from September 1 to 8, 2024. This highly anticipated event will bring together squash players from fourteen countries from across the world, with over 70 competitors representing regions including Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Australia.
As enthusiasm builds for the championship, FISU has secured some of the world’s most renowned referees to officiate the games, led by Major Subramaniam Singaraveloo, the Tournament Director and an authority in squash officiating. With decades of experience that encompasses national championships, appearances at the World Games, and various coaching roles across Malaysia and India, Major Singaraveloo is expected to enhance the tournament’s credibility.
Joining Major Singaraveloo are Mr Srikanth Seshadri and Mr Ralf Harenberg, both WSO Level 4 referees with extensive backgrounds in premier events, such as the European Team Championships and the World Games. Their expertise will contribute significantly to the tournament’s standards of fairness and professionalism.
Participants confirmed for the championship include teams and players from Australia, Brazil, Czechia, France, Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China, India, Japan, Lebanon, Spain, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, and Uganda. The opening ceremony will take place at the UJ Arts Theatre on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
