JOHANNESBURG, South Africa: A lineup of eleven African squash players will represent the continent at the highly anticipated FISU World University Championship Squash, set to take place in Johannesburg from 2 to 8 September 2024.
The tournament will feature a total of 70 top student−athletes from across the globe, including powerhouses like Singapore, Switzerland, China, and France. South Africa assembled a contingent of four men and four women, while Uganda will be represented by two women and one man.
South Africa has put its best student team forward, with contenders including Reuel Videler, Tristen Worth, and Diodivine Mkhize and the University of Johannesburg (UJ) second−year Chiropractic student−athlete Luke Jacoby. Their female counterparts boast a formidable lineup, including Lisa Venter, Megan Shannon, Helena Coetzee, and Lara Patrick.
Ugandans Elizabeth Musiimenta and Maureen Namugaya will carry their national flag with pride, while Raymond Mugasa will be the lone male representative. Despite limited experience, the Ugandan trio is eager to test their skills against the world’s best.
The tournament will be held at the prestigious Parkview Squash Centre and Wanderers Club. These venues are known for their world−class facilities including a full glass court at Wanderers. The Parkview facility boasts 11 incredible glass−backed squash courts with air conditioning and sprung floors.
This prestigious event, organized by UJ and University Sport South Africa (USSA) under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), brings together the best student−athletes from around the globe to compete for the coveted titles. The tournament promises to be a thrilling showcase of talent, skill, and sportsmanship.
Beyond the competition, the FISU World University Championship Squash offers a unique opportunity for student−athletes to connect with peers from different cultures, fostering international friendships and understanding.
